About STEELE

In the Beginning

They say that opportunities are borne out of personal experiences; that’s exactly what happened to Laurie Kerr, founder of STEELE Inc.

While searching for a new home for his family, Laurie and his wife Karla decided to undertake a major renovation to an existing bungalow in northwest Calgary, upon the advice of their realtor. At the time, (in the mid 2000’s) Calgary was at the height of its construction boom. So, the decision was made to purchase and gut their purchased 1950’s era bungalow.

Within a six-month period, Laurie took an old and tired house that was well cared for but contained lots of odd little rooms and original finishing’s, opened it up, and turned it into a modern functional home for his wife and three children. What Laurie was unable to do himself, he contracted out; and, as a result, his passion for renovating was born….as was STEELE.

The Man of STEELE: Get to Know Laurie

With over 25 years of experience as a mechanical contractor, Laurie Kerr — Principal & Owner of STEELE Inc. — has managed many projects across a broad spectrum of large commercial and industrial facilities in Alberta and BC to projects in the oil sands, as well as many residential new builds and renovations. His knowledge is drawn from “working in the trenches” and his ability to manage his projects results from knowing what it takes to get things done and being open and transparent with communication with his customers.

Laurie takes pride in every project, and he is very active on his project sites where you can see him personally engaged in many of the required physical tasks.

However, Laurie also understands the need to balance these activities carefully while ensuring budget and schedule are maintained.

“I firmly believe that there is no better way to know what is going on at a jobsite than actually being there and working alongside my other trades and sub-contractors.”

-Laurie Kerr, owner of STEELE Inc.

Experience. The Difference.

Renovating a home or commercial space is very different than a new build and often requires a different skill set and thought process. From setting up initial budgets to executing various tasks, there is a significant element of the “unexpected” in renovation work. Years of experience, the ability to account for surprises, the know-how to expect the unexpected as early as possible, and the ability to take assertive action to keep a project on track are all essential skills of a quality renovation contractor.

You deserve a dream renovation without the nightmares, and that requires a collaborative partner. A partner that takes a consultative approach to understanding your requirements. A partner that can bring world-class expertise, and complete transparency to the table. A partner that cares about your project.

That partner is STEELE.

We don’t believe in cutting corners; we believe in doing things right, and in doing the right things. That’s why we are able to deliver your dream renovation without the nightmares.
